These findings reference a variety of scripts and output: analysis of Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and detailed DMV findings.
TopSchool, Inc. provides solutions offering Student Lifecycle Management. TopSchool engaged us for an analysis of their environment. Due to tremendous growth they wanted to ensure their existing SQL Server 2005 database environment would be able to scale and perform at optimal levels. The engagement tasked us with discovering any issues in the environment, documenting those issues, providing recommendations and a path to remediate the problem areas.
The engagement resulted in:
- Migrating from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008
- Migrating from 32 bit to 64 bit
- Migrating reporting from the OLTP environment to its own OLAP environment
- Re-designing the data model from a predominately xml based data-store to a normalized OLTP database
Performance has increased dramatically and the databases at TopSchool are able to scale and perform beyond their original design, allowing for additional significant growth.
